What makes you think King uses ghost writers? I have never seen any evidence supporting allegation. If you have some, please share it. No, I don't have any evidence. It's just a hunch. Reading some of his more recent material, a lot of his keen, almost unique brand of wry wit and blackish humor seems to have evaporated. He seems to have lost a lot of his edginess. Peace, OHD

Finished "To America", then re-read King's "The Tommyknockers" (ever notice how most of King's recent works all seem to be the same story rewritten in different ways? "The Tommyknockers", "The Cell", "The Dome".....all the same story.) Now re-reading "The Perfect Storm". I'm not much of a King fan, but I do remember enjoying Tommyknockers. He's been around so long, I guess he and his dozen or so ghost writers believe the younger generation of readers haven't read his much earlier books, so he rearranges the stories, and.... Voila! They are obviously 'formula style' stories. The last book (series) I read was The Green Mile. I think he pretty much peaked out with that. It's one of my all-time favorite movies too! Peace, OHD I thought he peaked out with The Stand, but then he wrote The Cell and The Dome, where he basically just rewrote The Stand with different characters. I've read every book King ever wrote, including the books about writing (Danse Macabre is the best of these) and all the Richard Bachman books, all the King/Peter Straub books, and quite a few of his short stories when I can find them. I've been reading King since Cosmopolitan first did an excerpt of "Jerusalem's Lot" back in the spring of 1975. King's one of only 3 fiction authors whose books I regularly read. Normally don't read fiction at all. The other authors are Diana Gabaldon and Maeve Binchy.

Having just discovered that they (finally) are making a miniseries about these books which will begin airing on August 9th, I am now re-reading (for probably the 20th time) the entire Diana Gabaldon series about Jamie and Claire Fraser, beginning with "Outlander" then "Dragonfly in Amber" followed by "Voyager" then "Drums of Autumn", "The Fiery Cross", "A Breath of Snow and Ashes", and "An Echo in the Bone" - in order to prepare for the newest volume in the series, "Written in my Own Heart's Blood" to be released on June 10. www.dianagabaldon.com/

John Sandford, "Field of Prey" Love all his Prey books. next waiting for me is King's "Mercedes". not a typical King book, from what I understand, but then I like most of his books. He once said he has stacks of books he started and never finished, and he may be writing more than one at a time, so I wonder if that is why he was a bit frightened of his basement in Maine.

If King writes more than one book at a time, that could be why some seem like he merely phoned them in, while others don't. I also don't understand his fixation with "end of the world" scenarios, he's re-written the same book at least 3 times now - first The Stand, then The Cell, and then The Dome. All tweaked versions of the same plotline.

IMO, he likes to take charge of your sense of reality by showing a world we find familiar, then flipping it over to reveal the darkness underneath and "End of World" scenario's are where he can build this World.

I a person enjoys reading, they will make time for it...then there are those who just post on a thread to see their name there. From most of your posts on this forum, SK, it is fairly obvious that you are NOT a person who reads for relaxation.

I enjoy reading non-fiction, I read for knowledge and to gain new insites and ideas. I don't enjoy reading fiction or novels. Reading at bed time puts me too sleep I find... Anyhoo, I have been too busy to read working 10 hour days and then taking care of my house, weekends just flyby, I need to find time for running and race training too. Being divorced means I have to do everything myself. I want to read Monica Crowley's new book and I also enjoy reading Astronomy books. BTW Monica's radio show is on Saturday afternoons in most markets check her out - www.monicamemo.com
