It looks good, but I'm resisting downloading it. I have a bad habit of reading more than one book at a time. At least until one grabs me enough to stay with it. I'm right now reading 4, and trying to stick with R.R Martin's latest. I've also been revisiting Robert E Howard's books. Also I picked up a series of books called "the knights of Albion," which is a modern interpretation of Mallorys king Arthur stories. I have to get rid of some of my books, my wife is getting on me about them, they are everywhere. Book shelves are filled, I have a dresser filled. I have a lot of old out of print that I can't part with though. You're as bad as I am. #11l4ykg# ...y'all would go crazy if you saw my collection...to put it mildly, I could start my own book store...but like I said, I am into fiction, adventure...and have at least one copy of everything that Louis LaMour wrote and the same for William Johnstone....and I have no idea how many Ma has stashed or the authors she reads.

Because I have moved so many times, I have a much more limited library than I used to have. I had to weed it down from my old den with built in shelves on 3 walls to a couple of book cases. It about broke my heart to get rid of so many books. But they all went to a variety of good causes. Someday I hope to be able to start collecting again.

As an avid reader/collector myself, I can imagine how tough that had to be.

I used to have quite a few LaMour & Johnstone books. As well as Gillman. Gillmans westerns were more on the pulp fiction side of the coin. Kinda like the western version of a fantasy hack & slash.

I have never read Gillman, but Bill Johnstone was a personal friend for many years prior to his death
He wrote one book under the pen name of William Mason, which I let another friend borrow...haven't seen it since. It has been long out of print and I have not been able to find it in any of the used book stores. (it was his very first published book)

It has been long out of print and I have not been able to find it in any of the used book stores. (it was his very first published book) In 1999 I edited a novel in the making ( loose-leaf manuscript ) for an acquaintance of mine who lived at Lake Eufaula at the time. It was a 'detective, dames, and bad guys' type story set in the 50s, in Key West and Miami. It 'smacked of a decent Hemingway.' "He jerkily drained his whisky glass, inhaled deeply, and as the acrid smoke bit into his lungs . . . ." It was a good story, but it did not have a proper beginning, middle, and end. I fixed it, and I had to correct a lot of grammar, phraseology, sentence and paragraph structure, and lots of incorrectly worded euphemisms, truisms, idioms, etc. I spent roughly eighty or a hundred hours on a word processor, getting it ready to submit it to prospective publishers. It took several weeks, part time, and he was visibly impressed with all the changes which didn't alter the story line, or change the character types, albeit some unctuously 'stereotypical.' Anyway, he promised me a generous cut of the proceeds if it were published and cleared a significant profit. Well, it was submitted, published as a paperback and sold tens of thousands of copies, last I heard, so maybe hundreds of thousands of copies. I'll get to the point. I didn't hear from him for quite a while, so I called him at his home at the lake. He and his younger brother lived there. Alas, they had moved, disconnected their phone, and left no forwarding address. He used a pen name, that I have since forgotten, and he completely changed the book's original title somewhere along the line. To this day, I can't remember his pseudonym (pen name,) nor can I remember the title of the book, (which he had changed.) I had several irons in the fire at that time. I've lost contact with the few people involved in its publication. If I could find him, I'd sure as hell ask him for my cut, per our verbal contract. I tried intermittently for two years to locate him, not obsessively, to dun him for my work, but I only know his real name and none of his relatives' first names in Tulsa that he had talked about. Further, he had given me a fictitious publisher's name, and city. I didn't have access to the WWW at the time, to verify. I think I got hoodwinked. The moral of this story? Don't make book deals in a bar whilst playing snooker for money, all the while being under the influence of a considerable beer buzz. Peace, OHD

OHD....that COULD be the beginning of a good book...why don't you try it? You have a good command of the English language, and am willing to bet that you have had a few "experiences" in your life to draw from.

I've tried some o&w, and my life has been very, very interesting, but I really don't have the imagination and creativity required to 'create a novel,' or I didn't the last time I tried, it seemed. I would like to write a novel of sorts, semi-autobiographical, because I have been involved in some crazy stuff and I wouldn't have to 'create an imaginative' story. I haven't really tried in more than twenty years. I'm like many, in that I'm my own worst critic. That's a real hangup for me. Thanks for the compliment and encouragement! I appreciate it. I may give it another shot, now that I'm retired. I've thought about it. #7# Peace, OHD
