Telling those with a high temperature or cough to self-isolate for a week will have the "biggest impact" in the fight against coronavirus, the UK's chief science adviser says. Sir Patrick Vallance said the new advice was a "big intervention", amid criticism of the government's plan to combat the virus. The UK has moved from "containing" the coronavirus to "delaying" it. But an ex-health secretary criticised the lack of more stringent measures. All professional football leagues in England, including the Premier League, have suspended matches until at least 3 April. There have been 596 confirmed cases across the country, but health officials have said they believe the actual number of people infected could be between 5,000 and 10,000. In total, 10 people have now died in the UK with the virus. Jeremy Hunt told BBC Newsnight the decision to hold off cancelling large gatherings was "surprising and concerning" when we have "four weeks before we get to the stage that Italy is at". Much of Italy - the world's worst-hit country after China - is currently in lockdown as the country's tally of deaths has topped 1,000. "You would have thought that every single thing we do in that four weeks would be designed to slow the spread of people catching the virus," added Mr Hunt, who was health secretary for six years and quit as foreign secretary in July. But Sir Patrick told BBC Radio 4's Today programme it was more likely the virus would be transmitted in a pub than a stadium. "The most likely place you are going to get an infection from is a family member or friend in a small space, not in a big space," he said www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51865915

They seem to be trying to establish “herd immunity” means 60% of the population needs to catch it to have immunity !

The decision to put all their eggs in one basket and ban flights from China didn't help them at all. We also don't go around touching one another to the same extent as Italians and we don't have a lot of tourism this time of year whereas it started in Italy with ski resorts. We don't have those. Coronavirus or not, if you're going out in Birmingham, I wish you luck. What are you going to see?

Capt. Kangaroo , I just read that they are only going to be testing people who show up at hospitals now? I intend to operate under the assumption that if I have the symptoms, I have the corona pox and act accordingly. If I get sick, I will order as much guinness as Ocado will deliver to my door, direct the wife to make me an endless supply of sandwiches and watch all of netflix. So pretty much like every weekend.

What are you going to see? yes i read they traced from the Chinese but missed the fact it was already circulating in the general population, that a 35 year old Italian had it and had been to his GP a few times then hospital without being isolated once so spreading it around

Last time we went to the theatre it was Book of Mormon, which I completely recommend. We went out in Liverpool last night. Ate some amazing Indian food, then managed to break our habit of missing the last train and having to spend sixty quid on an Uber. I think a quiet weekend of my wife restoring furniture and me scratching my nuts while drinking and watching television is in order!

One of the talking head docs I saw said although testing is still worthwhile to get a better idea of how widespread the virus is, it will also get to the point where testing makes no difference because it will indeed be so widespread.

All these people that self isolate do they think the covid-19 won't be waiting for them? If they isolate for a long time maybe. 2 weeks nah.
