(Taken from my Facebook page) Ok friends I need your opinions. For those familiar with high school football overtime rules(SCC conference-Connecticut)please pay extra attention.Your team is down 34-13 in the first half, they battle back to within 41-40 pending the extra point with 2 minutes left. They kick the extra point so it's 41-41.Then there's a roughing the kicker penalty on the extra point, ball moved half the distance to the goal.Do you take the point off the board and try for 2 points for the win? This is what happened at the Foran/Stonington game tonight. They lost 41-40

I'd go for the tie and take my chances with basically a new game, if high-school rules allowed such.
(Not sure about high-school rules.)

In Connecticut they break ties similar to the NHL shootout method. Each team get the ball at the other teams 10yd line 4 downs,They alternate turns to see if they can score, you score and stop the other team, you win.Ironic thing at this game was the home team(Foran High School) won in overtime LAST week. One of the players fathers got into it with the coach about that decision from the stands believe it or not

Football coaching 101; never take points off the board. They should have, by rule, had the option of assessing the penalty on the ensuing kickoff. They could have attempted an onside kick at that point with little risk of forfeiting field position that late in the game. Worse case scenario is OT. Best case is a recovered onside kick and possession with field position.

not really familiar with hs rules, but LJ seems to be spot on...what kind of coach voluntarily gives up points to gamble on one more?...think someone needs to have a strong discussion with him behind the field house after the game is over.

What's more, 2-point tries are easier from the three than they are closer in because you have that slight edge in maneuvering room (unless you have a dominating power running game). Our favorite two-point play was to place the ball on the hash mark and spread wide side creating a three-tiered passing progression with the option of a rollout run if all three tiers are covered. If the defense overcompensates to the wide side you're set up with a four-on-four or four-on-three game to the short side. That all works better from the three than it would from closer.

That's what myself and 99% of the stadium thought. The place went silent when they didn't make the 2,except for the players father yelling, police came over and told him to knock it off.The ironic thing is last week Foran WON in overtime. There aren't many OT games that Ive seen in the last 15yrs.To do this after seeing what happened last week is very puzzling

Maybe he just wanted to go home and watch TV.
