Diana Gabaldon has written a series of EXCELLENT books that encompass the lives of two utterly fantastic characters - Jamie Fraser and Claire Beachamp. I cannot begin to tell you how great these books are - if you get the chance, READ THEM. You will not be able to stop!
Titles (in series order):
The Outlander Dragonfly in Amber Voyager The Drums of Autumn The Fiery Cross An Echo in the Bone A Breath of Snow and Ashes

I've read the first 4 in the series. I kinda lost interest after that. But I did enjoy those 4 very much. The combination of time travel and history makes for great books.

Oh wow, you've got to keep reading! The books are getting better and better. Claire and Jamie are just about to enter the Revolutionary War; Brianna and Roger have had a 2nd child and gone back to Boston to the early 1970s, and something serious is about to happen to Jemmy (that's how the last book ends). I was absolutely FLOORED when I read the first book the first time. I've never read anything as well-written as the scenes between Jamie and Claire. Gabaldon really "gets" the relationship between two people who seriously love each other. This was another series of books that I found difficult to put down, and as a rule I almost never read any fiction at all. The only other fiction series that made this much of an impact on me were the Harry Potter books (but for different reasons, obviously).
