Elephants are my favorite wild animals. Check out this great video of a baby being born...

That was unbelievable Kitsune. Elephants are one of my favorites too. I'm so glad the handlers there left her alone. She knew exactly what to do. It was amazing watching her kick him to breathe. You could tell she was anxious. Really incredible. Thanks for posting this.

Elephants are very adept at taking care of their young. In the wild, all the female relatives bond together and surround the little ones at all times to protect them from predators and male elephants that may want to harm the babies. Elephants are extremely loyal, highly intelligent, sensitive creatures who have been known to mourn the loss of another of their kind. I hate seeing them chained up in circuses - that is no way to treat them. No wonder some go crazy and kill their handlers when they break free.

I agree about the circuses. That's why I never took my children to one. Elephants have always fascinated me. Watching the video, the one thing that bothered me was that she was alone. I wonder if, in the wild, a mother in labor would be surrounded and aided by the other females?

Reminded me of Bill Cosbys 'Noah' routine.
