That's what my mother says too, but I can't get into them. *shrug* I have to say, I didn't find the majority of any of these books to be "scary." Creepy -- yes, scary -- no. I've read everything that Stephen King has written, including all his short stories AND the Bachman books, his collaborations, and his nonfiction Danse Macabre, and I have yet to find anything he writes to be "scary." He's one of the LEAST scary horror writers I've ever read.

Rebecca? Scary? Not in the least, just convincingly melodramatic.
I haven't read most of these books.
Peace,

I read Pet Semetary in one sitting on the proverbial dark and stormy night alone in my house in small town Connecticut. I didn't sleep.

I don't think I classify any of the listed books as scary. Some of them have a high creep factor. Some of them don't even qualify for that title. The Trial, The invisible Man, Rebecca, Lord of the Flies, The Silence of the Lambs, Slaughterhouse 5 are all great books but not scary.

You know, I guess that all depends on what scares you.

Yeah - there were at least 2 good scenes in that one. Dr. Jimmy's scene particularly gave me a good start at the time.

I read the book "Slaughterhouse Five". It was pretty intense, but the fatalistic attitude that prevails in the book irritated me!
The movie "Slaughter Five" is one of my favorite films though!
Most of the books I read are in the catagories of "self help", research + academic, history and spirtual. When I read these scary books it's usually in a foreign language like Spanish, Italian or Russian to learn these languages better.

I didn't read any of those. I perfer non-fiction science books and political books. I read many of Mike Savages Books and one from Monica Crowley "What Bleep Just Happened?" I like to read science stuff about space, stars, moons and planets.

I don't scare easily, too many horror books and movies, growing up I guess. The one that I find as the most eerie, is "Something WIcked This Way Comes" Ray Bradbury. Shakespeare "Ill winds mark its fearsome flight, and autumn branches creak with fright. The landscape turns to ashen crumbs, when something wicked this way comes.

Something Wicked This Way Comes is a classic creepy book! I loved reading that as a teenager.
