Sunday NFL tops Game Nov.01,2010 The earliest starting time since 1987 didn't help TV ratings for Fox's coverage of Game 3 of the the 2010 World Series Saturday night. The Texas Rangers 4-2 win over the San Francisco Giants drew a 6.7 TV rating (percentage of TV homes), the second-lowest ever for a World Series game. The only World Series telecast to suffer a lower rating was Game 3 of the 2008 series between the Philadelphia Phillies and Tampa Bay Rays. That game was delayed 90 minutes by rain and didn't get going until after 10 p.m ET. Unless the Rangers and pitcher Cliff Lee can claw back tonight in Game 5 from a 3-1 deficit against Giants ace Tim Lincecum, this year's Giants-Rangers World Series could be the second-lowest ever behind Phillies-Rays. Through the first 3 games, Fox's coverage averaged an 8.1 rating, down 26% from the first three games of the New York Yankees-Philadelphia Phillies in 2009. But up 5% from the first three games of Phillies-Tampa Bay Rays two years ago, the last series that didn't feature the Yankees or Boston Red Sox. Fox's Game 5 coverage will have to compete for viewers with ESPN's Monday Night Football telecast of an NFL AFC South showdown between Peyton Manning's Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans and ABC's highly-rated Dancing with the Stars. -- Michael McCarthy content.usatoday.com/communities/gameon/post/2010/11/world-series-ratings/1
