For the new year I've decided to read more. First book, One Hundred Years of Solitude. Anyone have any other books they would recommend? Normally I'm drawn toward horror, suspense or true crime, but I'm wanting to try new genres

"The thread in which you are posting has no effects applied to it." WTH! One of my all-time-favorites! Read it back in the 80s or 90's for the first time. Not an "easy read." How ya doin', kid?

I've been rereading The Handmaid's Tale (after seeing ads for the new series). Its a dark tale but very good. I’ve wondered about this book. I might try it. I’m currently reading A Column of Fire. Ken Follet. Pillars of the Earth was first in the series. Great read.

You stole my recommendation! Who would have known that we have something in common. The Idiot is my favorite book. For something lighter, in the same spirit, read The Little Prince, by Antoine De Saint-Exupéry. Nevah hoid uh da dude! I've never ventured off into much French literature, aside from a few classics; Hunchback and Les Misérables by V. Hugo, Marquis De Sade, et cetera. I don't read much at all nowadays because I have the beginnings of 'cataracts' and haven't done anything about it. So, how does The Little Prince relate to The Idiot, as it regards literature? Read both and find out for yourself. If you can't read, there are audiobooks.

Presumably you are not blind. Go into a bookstore (with your seeing eye-dog) and purchase two audiobooks. Compare and contrast in your head.

Presumably you are not blind. Go into a bookstore (with your seeing eye-dog) and purchase two audiobooks. Compare and contrast in your head. Hey, tempest in a teapot! Long time! Strange timing. I've been back here as a regular for some time now and your persona has not, of late. How's it hanging, dude!? I am not a little bumfuzzled by your discombobulated post. ? You 'presumed' I'm "not blind," so why in Hell did you proceed with the "seeing eye-dog" bit? That's contra-indicative. Moreover, what do you know about 'comparing and contrasting?' (rhetorical) You are a bigoted, narrow-minded, ultra-left leaning little shit, pretending to be sophisticated, highly educated, enlightened, suave and savvy about everything under the sun. But the takeaway here, the long and the short of it is, you surely must have an inferiority complex, from what I can gather.
Peace,
OHD

Its has been raining since Thurs night, so I'm waiting for my Magic Moon tea to steep, then will settle down to read M C Beaton, a Hamish Macbeth mystery. Hamish is a highland constable that has a dog and a Scottish wild cat as pets , which he takes with him as he solves the latest Highland villages crime. I enjoy this series, light and fun.

I have a few books that I'd like to read, one is "Grace Underfire" by Dana Loesch, and D'Souza wrote a book that really sounds good, I'm a big fan of his writings and films, he always does good work. I was reading a book by Mark Lavin but got side tracked and still have the book on my nite stand, I'm about 80% thru it. Liberals won't like to read any of the books I enjoy, they are just too closed minded and don't like other view points.

While to most people, the public faces of the National Rifle Association are those of the children hiding under their desks while a shooter runs through their school with a semi-automatic weapon, Dana Loesch was technically the organization's spokesperson, until she was fired. One less propaganda arm for NRA thieves.
