That is exactly how Ozzy acts. He is a very quiet dog over all but when he is not sure of something he lowers his head and stares at whatever it is like a bull. He can also slide under a chain link fence at top speed like a greased pig even if it looks like a mouse couldn't get under it lol. Good news is he is my dawg and nothing is going to get near me when he is around. I love this dog so much.

If a dog stands over a dog that is lying down s/he is asserting dominance over the other dog. By lying still the Rottie is showing submission.

If a dog stands over a dog that is lying down s/he is asserting dominance over the other dog. By lying still the Rottie is showing submission. So that can be a true statement but you have to look at the rest of what he is doing. 1. He has gone whale-eyed which indicates he is about to bite. 2. He was drooling, which indicates excitement. 3. Submission would have meant getting up and walking away from the toy, rolling over, or breaking eye contact. Dogs consider direct eye contact to be very aggressive. If that shepard had gone for that toy he wouldn't have gotten it. All signs from that rottie are..I'm watching you eff off. The shepard wisely chose to walk away.

I have had rotties and rottie mixes for many years, when they are stoic like that with that look in there eyes it is not a submissive stance...That look is a warning that you bow your head to touch my toy and mommy is going to be taking you to the vet for stitches...

Yep.. I see it in Oz. Frankly it is intimidating as hell when he does it. He will walk right up to a dog on the other side of the fence and not make a sound, but just track them with his head lowered and to the side like that. If the dog gets too close to the fence he strikes like lightening at the fence and dog. He never barks or growls at them at all, he is just silent and deadly.

In Fredericktown we had a neighbor with a chug named "Vader". Little asshole barked non stop at us, after a week of it Oz walked over and peed on his head. Good times lol.
