Now that e-readers have exploded onto the market do any of you have one?
I friend of mine bought me a Nook for Christmas several years ago when they first came out. At the time, the only competition was the Kindle from Amazon. Now there are tons of various e-readers, as well as software to download for phones, the i-pad, or tablet's. I wasn't sure I would like the Nook at first, but I have to admit, that it is not much different from having a book in front of you...PLUS you get the added bonus of taking your library with you where ever you go.
Does anyone else have one or is looking to buy one?

Nope. But I have an Audio Books app on my iphone. It's great. I can listen to a book while I'm cleaning the house, doing bills, whatever.
Many of the classics are on there. I'm going to listen to Moby Dick next. Never read it.

I'm going to listen to Moby Dick next. Never read it. When I was about 17 my parents and I took a trip cross country to Wyoming. Dad had bought me tickets to see Frontier Days in Cheyene since I was big into riding western and rodeo's. Mom and Dad turned it into an entire two week trip. We stopped at various places all over the country on the way out and again on the way back. Of course this was during the time of tape decks, so Dad had bought the audio version of The Bridges of Madison County to listen to while we were on the road. I loved it. It's the only audio book I've ever listened to, but it was great to hear the story told. I may have to try it again.

He sent me on a scavenger hunt around town via text messaging which led me to Barnes and Noble to pre-order it. I had NO idea what he was up to. Tell Hubby to order you one and you can tell him if he doesn't I will gladly kick his ass for you. Tell him that Kissy says so or else.

This is going to sound really silly, but as I read so much and books have been such a big part of my life, it would just seem weird to me to get an e-reader, like it is somehow disloyal. Maybe one of these days I will!

I feel the same way. I am a very tactile person - the feel and scent of things are important to me. I love books. However, since I am really bad about returning library books, I do tend to purchase my books. Problem is, I have no place to store them! While I would be giving up the tactile satisfaction, I would have a chance to increase my library. As a matter of fact, I just donated two boxes of hardcover novels to the library just to clear out some room.

My method is to read the new books from the library first, and if I decide I really like the book enough to own it, THEN I go buy it to keep. Usually this only happens with nonfiction, but I do have all the Harry Potters, and every book that both Maeve Binchy and Diana Gabaldon have ever written. It does help to keep the amount of books I have at an acceptable level now that the bookcase is full and a stack of books is crawling up the side of it. Now if I could just figure out a way to stop myself from picking up old cookbooks at library book sales.....

I have had my Kindle Fire for over a year now, and I must say that I absolutely love it. I can literally store thousands of books on it, between the device and the cloud.

We both have one, Hubby a kindle fire, mine is just a plain kindle. We were over run with books and not enough space to keep them all, so out went the one time reads, and only our favs and classic books stayed. If we like a book ,that is part of series, on the kindle, then we buy them, otherwise everything is on our kindle's and we can share those books with each other. Easy to carry, and any book on my kindle can be read on my phone using the kindle app.
