Here you go someday. A place to discuss our favorite books. Seems like a good idea. We'll see how it goes.

I'm curious if anyone else has read The Shack, by William P. Young? I haven't read it yet, but many people I know have and they told me it was very good. I have heard different opinions on how God is portrayed in the story where some feel inspired and others think it borders on blasphemy. What's your opinion?

Thank you so much, Belle!
Yes, I have read "The Shack" and I liked it very much. Quite an interesting concept and very thought provoking! It kind of sets you back on your heels at first, but as I got into the book I didn't see it as blasphemous but more as a creative way to open your eyes to God and the mysteries of life.

Has anyone read "The Help"? There's a movie coming out next year, and I have a friend who read it and she said she liked it, but her taste and mine are VASTLY different.

That has actually been my belief for a long time. That God loves us all. From a distance.

A friend of mine gave me a copy of Robert James Waller's Bridges of Madison County when the book first came out (long before the movie). It was a real page turner, beautifully written and poignant. While I saw the folly of Francesca beginning a relationship she could never continue because she was committed to her husband and family, the way the story of her life unfolded, you understood why she impulsively took that brief detour from the path life had placed her on just to see what it would be like to live the life she had always dreamed about. Years later, I saw a well acted and thought provoking movie called A Walk On The Moon which touched on the same theme. In both cases, cheating was not portrayed as glamorous and there were consequences and regrets which is a far cry from the way most Hollywood movies handle such topics.

I saw A Walk On The Moon last year. It was very easy to relate to and thought provoking. Loved it. It had a much more satisfying ending than Bridges.

I have the book and movie of "Bridges of Madison County" and loved both. I will have to check out "A Walk on the Moon"!
Another favorite author of mine is Fanny Flagg (you may remember her from Hollywood Squares!) She wrote "Fried Green Tomatoes atht eh Whistle Sop Cafe" which they made into a movie. I love Kathy Bates and thought she was fabulous in her role. There doesn't seem to be too many movies that do the books that thet are based on justice, but that is one of them!
I also like Joy Fielding's books a lot. has anyone else read any of her books?

I don't have one particular favourite book/author, but I can recommend Rosamund Lupton. She's had 2 books published so far, 'Sister' & 'Afterwards'. Here's the link to Rosamund Luptons website:- www.rosamundlupton.com/
