Just finished "Dr. Sleep", the sequel to "The Shining" by Stephen King. Started it Saturday morning - finished it by dinner time. I truly enjoyed it.

I'm definitely getting that one.
I just finished To Kill A Mockingbird. Olivia is doing a book report on it, so I re-read it, so we could discuss it. She hadn't seen the movie, so we watched it after she finished the book. I'm happy to say, she loved both.

Mine too. And oddly enough, it's also Olivia's boyfriend's favorite. She's so happy that she's found a guy who likes to read, but is still "manly", as she puts it.

I agree, although it is totally different from The Shining. The gory scare factor that was prominent in The Shining is not there in Dr. Sleep.

I think the exploration of the effects of the shining on the person and how the family traits fit in made it have a higher creep factor for me coming from an alcoholic family history myself.

Creep factor - definitely. Gore, not so much. Although I have been finding that King is going more towards the cerebral creep factor than the out and out scare factor. I appreciate that.

Me too. That's one reason I liked Dumas Key so much.

Actually, one of my favorites by him is Lisey's Story. It was like a supernatural love story, a la King.

"Dr Sleep". I will read anything King writes. Also enjoyed his "11.22.63" Back in "94' while touring , we went by Kings house in Bangor, MN. His insurance Company made him enclose his property, for safety. He fenced it with black wrought iron and flying bats on top of the posts, and the gate was wide open. So much for safety.
